MONTRÉAL, Canada -- In a dramatic display at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Max Verstappen clinched victory at the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix on June 9th. The race was a rollercoaster of emotions and strategy, heavily influenced by changing weather conditions that kept teams and drivers on their toes throughout the event.

On the track, Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing secured first place with a time of 1:45:47.927, finishing ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris by 3.879 seconds and Mercedes' George Russell by 4.317 seconds.

Verstappen, driving for Red Bull Racing, secured his 60th career win in this race, further solidifying his dominance in the 2024 season. Starting from second on the grid, Verstappen showed outstanding performance and led the race with proficiency and control - with impeccable skill and strategic acumen to navigate through the challenging wet and dry conditions. He capitalized on crucial moments, particularly during the transition from wet to dry, managing his tire strategy to perfection.

The victory in Montreal extends Verstappen's lead in the Drivers' Championship, while Red Bull continues to dominate the Constructors' standings.

Lando Norris of McLaren finished in an impressive second place. Norris, who started third, demonstrated remarkable consistency and speed, especially in the latter stages of the race. Norris managed to complete the race on the lead lap and secured a respectable position when crossed the finish line with a time gap of 3.879 seconds behind Max Verstappen.

McLaren's performance underscored their competitive form this season.

George Russell secured pole position with a stunning qualifying lap. Despite a strong start, Russell faced difficulties in the changing weather conditions, but he managed to secure a valuable third place and completed the podium for Mercedes. Russell finished closely behind Norris with a time difference of 4.317 seconds from the first-place finisher, Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes set the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:14.856 on the final lap (70), showcasing his relentless pace. However, Hamilton finished in fourth place, just missing out on a podium finish.

Oscar Piastri of McLaren secured fifth place, marking another strong finish for the team. Fernando Alonso brought his Aston Martin home in sixth, followed by his teammate Lance Stroll Aston Martin in seventh.

The next places in the first ten went to Daniel Ricciardo of RB, who finished eighth, followed by Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon of Alpine, respectively.

The race was not without its drama, affected by changing weather conditions and rain, there was multiple incidents and retirements, including notable DNFs from Sergio Perez of Red Bull Racing and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, highlighted the treacherous conditions.

One of the notable incidents involved Logan Sargeant of Williams, who spun out exiting Turn 4, bringing out the Safety Car. This incident had significant implications for the race strategy of several leading drivers.

Another major collision occurred with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who faced a power unit issue and attempted to switch to slick tires early. This gamble did not pay off, and Leclerc's race ended early when he ultimately retired from the race. Similarly, his teammate Carlos Sainz also failed to finish, marking a challenging race for the Ferrari team.

Sergio Perez of Red Bull was another driver who did not complete the race. Perez struggled with mechanical issues that forced him to retire. This further complicating Red Bull Racing’s strategy despite Max Verstappen's dominant performance.

Alexander Albon of Williams also did not finish, adding to the list of DNFs for the event.
